Mapping nibs (recommended for beginners)

  1. Joseph Gillott 659 Crowquill Nib
This nib is generally used for drawing fine lines and scripture diagrams along with practicing copperplate writing. This is a beautiful nib and must use for every calligrapher at its beginner state before proceeding to any more professional nibs and advancements.

Inks recommended for beginners

  1. Winsor Newton Ink - Calligraphy Ink (The best and oldest ink available around the world)
This ink is non-waterproof highly dense concentrated that can be used for writing at almost on all types for papers. This is blot-free ink. This ink does not easily blots on paper until paper quality is really below the line.

Other ink options -

  1. Kohinoor Ink
  2. Parker Ink
  3. Camel Acrylic Ink
Very cheap quality of ink. This ink forms layer like film on the paper and is not absorbent. Never use in fountain pen, this will just destroy your pen forever. Use only for practice using dip pen. (Never recommended to use this)
